Nobel Prize for Medicine 2024:

How tiny microRNAs control our health

14 October 2024

The 2024 Nobel Prize in Medicine has been awarded to the Americans Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun, as announced by the Karolinska Institute. The prize honors the discovery of so-called "microRNAs." These are short, naturally occurring molecules that regulate the activity of our genes and thereby influence numerous vital processes. Research into microRNA molecules, first discovered in roundworms, has fundamentally expanded our understanding of diseases such as cancer, metabolic disorders, and cardiovascular conditions. The Gen Suisse Foundation welcomes the recognition of this milestone in modern biomedicine: microRNA technologies hold tremendous potential to open up new avenues for therapeutic approaches.
